Soldier

Soldier

I left my window open before I went to bed.
All the children were sound asleep.

I awoke to the sound of heavy feet.
Who’s there? I shouted with fear in my voice.
And I looked down the hall; my only choice.
My heart was bare.
Their father stood but now with graying hair.
